PHOTO TRICKS: DAVID LACHAPELLE'S LAND SCAPES

January 19, 2014

Once thought of only as a celebrity photographer, LaChapelle has branched out over the last several years flexing his fine art photography muscles with his “Earth Laughs In Flowers” and “Still Life” series. His new “Land Scapes” includes Gas Station and Refineries series. “Both bodies of work use handcrafted scale models, constructed of cardboard and a vast array of recycled materials from egg cartons to tea canisters, hair curlers, and other by-products of our petroleum-based, disposability-obsessed culture.” –Shana Nys Dambrot, in Land Scape. Bathed in an ethereal light and aglow with an otherworldly quality, we are as captivated as we are repelled. At Paul Kasmin Gallery through March 1.
