I’m in Miami, sitting on the restaurant terrace at SoHo Beach House waiting for my friend, curator Melanie Johanson to arrive from DelRay Beach. Tuesday night was the opening of “Language Art” at the Cornell Museum, a show I’m in at the Cornell that Melanie put together… more on that later. I arrived in Miami last night and checked into the Holiday Inn, on the beach. Couldn’t get in anywhere good. It’s not glam but it’s just two doors down from SoHo Beach House, where I am a member. It’s not so glam, but certainly familiar and chic. Certainly nice to meet a new Brit friend at the bar, Toto Ellis, yes, TOTO… and experience the convergence of the art world with Miami Beach. My friend Susan Kilkenny had just arrived from her Thanksgiving holiday in St. Barths and she brought along her friends, Risa, Amie and Oliver. We got a great table on the terrace and just hung out for hours. Six, actually. On the beach is a tent (below) that SoHo House sets up every year and at around midnight we went out there and put our toes in the sand and looked at the ocean. I know, you’re saying, “Why are you telling me this?” this is NOT exciting. Well, that’s kinda the point. A hundred parties last night and we opted to just stay in one place and chill, as they. Why is that always so satisfying? OK, more to report later as I hit the main fair Art Basel now…
