The National Portrait Gallery in London gave David Bailey free rein to hang pretty much as he pleased, the nearly 300 photographs that make up his 50 year retrospective, “Stardust”. From the celebrity portraits to a tribute to his model wife Catherine Bailey (here at the opening with Bailey and Jerry Hall) and his travel photography from Delhi, Bailey has deviated from the chronological to organize the pictures into categories, by theme, era or location, in all sizes and formats, some six feet tall. And his famous friends all turned out for a private VIP preview last night. From top, cross-dressing artist Grayson Perry (who recently wore drag to Buckingham Palace) matched his wife, Phillipa; Nick Rhodes and Nefer Suvio; talk-show host Graham Norton; legendary designer Zandra Rhodes.
