THE SAD, WEIRD INSTAGRAM FOOD PICS OF RUSSIAN SPY, MARIA BUTINA

July 22, 2018

Maria Butina, the 29-year-old (alleged) Russian spy and N.R.A. whore is accused of working to, quote,

“Exploit personal connections with U.S. persons having influence in American politics.”

But one of the oddest things to surface about her was Butina’s Instagram feed. She appears to have stopped updating it in October 2015 a year before she moved to the States on a student visa to spy on U.S.. There were a few regular selfies, but most notably absolutely AWFUL pictures of food. Like the ones below of a boiled chicken breast, a few extremely wet omelettes and cheese-and-tomato sandwiches that are making me depressed.

According to The Cut,

“Based on the Google translation of her captions, Butina is (or was) an athlete and fitness nut whose angrily lit, utilitarian, protein-heavy meals were meant to maximize her gym and maybe espionage performance.“

The moment I saw a pic of Butina on TV, I thought Tracy Ullman must already be working on 6 new bits as her. One could be her sad food Grams.
