AW KICKS
There seems to be a never-ending supply of new items with Warhol imagery, but these kicks I want. Along with The Andy Warhol Foundation, Converse is releasing the Andy Warhol Chuck Taylor All Star collection for spring. In both high-top and low-top forms, the collection is slated to arrive on February 7 at specialty retailers and on Converse.com. Ranging from $35 – $90, a portion of the proceeds will then go to Warhol Foundation. Andy always loved shoes. When he was a commercial illustrator in the 50s he drew them and in the 80s he silkscreened them for Halston high-heeled ads. He also reportedly silkscreened his own pair of Chuck Taylors too. Converse design director, Damion Silver says;
“Andy Warhol famously created art inspired by American pop culture icons, and was a pioneer in utilizing the Chuck Taylor All Star as a blank canvas for his work. From this shared creative history grew our collaboration with Warhol.”
Just might have to get a pair. I have a pair of vintage Randy the Tiger tennis shoes, MIB below, signed by Andy, that a pair of these might look great next to in my display case –donate think?
AW SHADES
Also for spring, the Self Portraits Collection, produced by Retrosuperfuture (and the Andy Warhol Foundation) feature a collage of photo booth self-portraits and come in four frame shapes. $245.
