There are legends and there are legendary guys, like Stephen Saban, who eschew the spotlight to write about those legends. One of the most beloved is Stephen. James St. James says;
“When I moved to New York, he was the reason why I wanted to become a writer in the first place because he made it so glamorous. Working with him was such a learning experience and a dream come true.”
He was also a founding editor of Details magazine (which sadly, just announced it is closing up shop), with a column that detailed the era’s famous parties and peeps. In an article from the NY Times, Saban’s influence is celebrated, noting support from famed personalities likes RuPaul, Dianne Brill, Karen Finley and Michael Musto, who said;
“He was the daddy of the downtown scene, the one who made it cool to be cool.”
Stephen’s many friends, former colleagues and admirers are rallying to wish him a happy 70th and to raise money for his recovery from pancreatic cancer.
Thursday, December 17th at 9PM (with an open bar 9-11PM) The minimum donation is $30 (you CAN give more, hint, rich folks!) with the legendary DJ, Johnny Dynell and a midnight toast and birthday sing-a-long to Stephen himself. 100% of proceeds will help defray his medical costs. Cash only at the door. Continental, 25 Third Ave @St. Marks Place East Village, NYC.
See you there!
