The hottest social media trend of 2020? Recreating famous artworks in lockdown.
The J. Paul Getty Museum in LA challenged art lovers to post pics recreating their favorite masterpieces from home.
Inspired by the Tussen Kunst en Quarantaine (Between Art and Quarantine) Instagramaccount from Amsterdam, since Artnet first reported on the Getty challenge it spawned countless memes and new versions.
The challenge: recreate your favorite work of art with 3 (or more) things lying around your home.
The best part is that you don’t need to be an art history major to appreciate the work. The comparisons make it obvious –and hilarious.
From my informal survey of 50+ masterpieces, it seems using babies, pets, and toilet paper to recreate Frida Kahlo, Jeff Koons’, Klimt’s are high on art lovers lists.
