As I sit in my cozy converted barn in upstate New York, I look outside to see a foot of snow on the ground. I’m lucky to have this place (plus a tiny apartment in NY’s Meatpacking District) but I do fantasize about trading it all in – and it would be hard to beat this place in Palm Spring for relaxed, elegant living. Built in 1969, it now belongs to to Stephen Collins. You might know him as host of Bravo‘s Property Envy or the World of Wonder-produced Man About Modernism but this man has worn many hats. He’s also been a hotelier, writer, curator and designer. And he renovated and updated the place you see here:
“The boldest move I made with the floorpan was to totally flip one side of the house to the other…Where once there had been a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, now there is a large, extremely comfortable kitchen and dining area. The former master bedroom accessed the deepest part of the exterior of the property. I felt this was something that needed adjusting… We live more and more in not only our living rooms but also our kitchens. The new kitchen location allows for a deep patio for dining and entertaining.”
Makes sense to me. As fab as it is, I don’t have the $1.5 million asking price in my accounts to snatch this place up. Dammit! But if YOU do, tell me how you could do any better than this? Yeah, I hear my neighbor coming over to plow my snowy driveway right now… ah, Palm Springs. For details, go here.
