Some directors defy a single occupational category – Werner Herzog is one of those directors. He occasionally acts, recently as the REALLY bad guy in Jack Reacher, and in a cameo on Parks And Recreation. On the back cover of his recent book Werner Herzog — A Guide for the Perplexed by Paul Cronin, there are 24 rules by this multi-hyphenate auteur. Some apply to film, others to life in general but revenge, bears, bolt cutters, jail… he’s got a lot covered here:
