It’s %&$#! freezing in NYC this weekend, and the rest of the country, as well… so JUST what you want to think about – a hotel made entirely of ice! Every year, more than 50,000 people visit the Icehotel, in Jukkasjärvi, a small village in Northern Sweden. You’ve heard of it before, maybe? Not only is this hotel made entirely of ice, every year it features a new design theme. This year is its 25th anniversary, and different designers and artists came to help carve each unique room. There’s also an ice bar, a church, and the pillar hall. It’s a year-round process, btw. During March and April, ice is harvested from Torne River and then stored until November, when designers from around the world come to help construct the entire complex. It lasts from December to mid-April, then it slowly melts back into the river. Really amazing and great looking, yes, but all in all, I think I’ll take a regular old hotel on a beach ANY day. Especially today. Brrrr.
