Lawyers for Kim Davis said that Pope Francisheld a private meeting with her during his U.S. visit. Every other major news source out there reported the same news like The New York Times, Fox, NBC, CBS and according to Breitbart, Inside the Vatican says “Vatican sources” have confirmed the meeting. Whether or not the meeting actually took place – people have questioned the statements of her legal team before, including a report that claimed 100,000 Christians had rallied for her in Peru.
According to the Liberty Counsel, which is representing Davis, she met with Pope Francis last Thursday in D.C., the same day that he issued his historic speech to congress. A statement from the Liberty Counsel claims that Davis “was humbled to meet Pope Francis.”
“Of all people, why me? I never thought I would meet the Pope. Who am I to have this rare opportunity? I am just a County Clerk who loves Jesus and desires with all my heart to serve him.
Pope Francis was kind, genuinely caring, and very personable. He even asked me to pray for him. Pope Francis thanked me for my courage and told me to ‘stay strong.'”
Say what you want about Kim Davis, but is she REALLY going to LIE about meeting the Pope? (If you believe in hell, lying about meeting the Holy Father would surely get you a HOT one-way ticket to H-E double hockey sticks…) And if the meeting didn’t really take place, will the Vatican contradict her. We shall see, but either way this is the strangest news and for many taints the Pontiff’s entire U.S. mission. This Pope clearly agrees with her on same-sex marriage. On the plane home to Rome on Sunday evening, Terry Moran of ABC News asked the Pope if he supported
“those individuals, including government officials, who say they cannot in good conscience, their own personal conscience, abide by some laws or discharge their duties as government officials, for example in issue marriage license to same sex couples? Do you support those kinds of claims of religious liberty?”
Francis replied,
“Conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right. It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right.
Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right, a human right. Otherwise we would end up in a situation where we select what is a right, saying ‘this right that has merit, this one does not.’ It (conscientious objection) is a human right.”
Moran asked,
“Would that include government officials as well?”
Pope Francis replied,
“It is a human right and if a government official is a human person, he has that right. It is a human right.”
Speaking of human rights, how about being able to marry the one you love legally? Anyway, it’s clear that, meeting or not, he supports her right to oppose same-sex marriage, regardless of the law. If you’re a Catholic, I get it –he’s your guy, but for me he comes down on the wrong side of too many issues in 2015.
