You might look at Thom Browne’s Sring/Summer 2017 collection here and say this is craziness. I beg to differ. So does the CFDA, who named him Menswear Designer of the Year this year. His collections, and especially the styling for the runway shows are always over the top of the top, but all of his clothing –men’s and women’s– are rooted in classical tailoring, with detail upon detail, tongue firmly in chic. Just look at these clothes, it’s not hard to see the humor in this beach paradise theme. (The shark bite pants are my favorite.) What’s yours? Are they wearable? Depends on where you’re going. Are they brilliant? No doubt.

THOM BROWNE'S LATEST MEN'S COLLECTION IS "DESTROYED BESPOKE"
Thom Browne’s runway show is always theater. For his men’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection just shown at Paris Fashion Week, gentlemen were decked out in Browne’s brand of distressed grandeur with tattered suitcases and their faces entirely hidden by bowler hats pierced with see-thru venting so, as not to trip down the catwalk. Models chosen for their physical attributes, minus faces this time around, I guess.
There was sort of loose Dorian Gray them, so the facelessness makes sense, as much as runway ever needs any exposition. I do love these clothes and they are SO well-tailored, as his stuff always is. It’s destroyed bespoke! Hey, did I just coin a new term? Probably not.
