Mac Conner: A New York Life opens at the Museum of the City of New today. McCauley (“Mac”) Conner grew up admiring Norman Rockwell magazine covers in his Dad’s general store. After he arrived in New York City to work on wartime Navy publications, he stayed on to make a career in the city’s booming publishing industry. This exhibit presents Conner’s hand-painted illustrations for ad campaigns and women’s magazines like Redbook andMcCall’s, made during the years after World War II when commercial artists helped to redefine American style and culture. (BTW, he's still living and turned 100 last year!) Through January 19, 2015 at the Museum of the City of New York.
