I wrote a post about Miles Chapman’s talented partner, Bouke de Vries, the other day. This isn’t just a tit for tat post – Miles is multi-talented in his own right. We met at Vanity Fair when he came over with Tina Brown to edit Vanity Fair. I designed the section of the magazine that he edited, then called Vanites. We fought like mad, held no grudges and became fast friends outside the office, often seeing each other with a group of mutual friends.
Fast forward 30 years and he’s moved back to London living in a beautiful house with Bouke and Sonny (see below) still editing a bit and in the last several years, he’s put his Portbello Road collecting bug to beautiful use making beautiful and useful jewelry. Using a vast collection assembled over MANY years, Miles’s wares are now in high demand. For instance he has assembled a one-of-a-kind necklace (top) made from 36 eternity rings collected over a decade called, what else? – Ten Years of Eternity. Madonna bought the FUCK OFF! necklace – of course she did. Miles made her a necklace with L–O–U–R–D–E–S spelled out, just for fun but then he chickened out sending it to her. You (and Madonna) can find his pieces at the very chic shopping experience,Dover Street Market in both London and New York. I think he’ll make custom pieces – maybe. I’m saying that, but not promising. One thing I CAN promise, I’m going over for dinner tonight and we’ll laugh and have fun. You can contact him and see more of his work here.
