You know we love anniversaries… it combines numbers and milestones. Well, thirty years ago, this cover hit the newsstands. I was a young designer at Vanity Fair and the Editor-in-Chief, the late, great Leo Lerman, had heard of Keith Haring's meteoric rise in the art world. Keith was a friend and Leo asked me about him. I did a bit of a sales number on his success and talents and so, I helped facilitate this cover, a bit. The magazine's Art Director, Ruth Ansel, designed it. When it was printed and I gave him copies, Keith gave me one of the rejected drawings, a single running man heart, which says "My Favorite. Keith". Framed in gold, it's mine too and one of my most-loved possessions.
