IKEA is responsible for MANY breakups, roommate fights and busted friendships. This couple decided to tempt fate and drop acid before building some GRUNDTAL or NORRVIKEN.
Sort of like Drunk History, HIKEA Productions is a new documentary webseries where various folks across the Internet attempt to build IKEA furniture under the influence. Giancarlo and Nicole do their best.

In the 70s & 80s, this used to be a thing in New York. Local news station Channel 5 broadcast this message every night,
“It’s 10 PM, do you know where your children are…?
Great thing to ask parents, but it takes on a slightly more sinister tinge when delivered by Grace Jones & Andy Warhol. You get the feeling like they might want to add
"...tell us and we'll get them and take them to Studio!"
Watch.
Comedian Scott Rogowsky mocked up some fake book covers, with some realistic graphics, to see if people on the New York subway clocked what he was reading. Books with titles like
• Ass Eating Made Simple
• How To Hold a Fart In
Which I think maybe would have been more grammatical as, How To Hold In a Fart
Anyway, here are a few stills but the video is worth it. You get a lot more titles plus some pretty priceless reactions. It’s NYC, so people try to play it cool but they DO notice. Watch.
“Darlin’ I love ya, but give me Park Avenue!“
Dressed in overalls and a straw hat, Donald Trump sang this version of the Green Acres theme song he sang with Megan Mullally at the 2011 Emmy Awards. He was pretty much on key too. I’ll bet Megan feels differently about this today than she did 5 years ago. Kinda like an innocent, fun song vs. a duet with Hitler. Watch.
Irishman Allan Dixon (who lives in Australia) seems to have mastered the art of selfie taking with critters. These pics of him with various species has blown up worldwide since Christmas. He seems like a very earnest guy, not to mention cute. From his Facebook;
Wow, it’s been an interesting few days. I woke up yesterday and my phone exploded with notifications full of nice messages from all over the globe.
For two years I took photos with animals in various locations. It was something funny I did with no intention of it ever going somewhere.
Start working on something you like. Find people that need help in that area. Showcase how you can help. Brainstorm, innovate, help and repeat the cycle.
He’s also a daredevil. Dixon used to work for Tourism Australia, but is now trying his hand at recording crazy stuff for his YouTube channel, 360 Thrill. Check out some of his insane videos here.
I have posted that the legendary DJ Anita Sarko left us on Friday. Rather than give you a rundown of her accomplishments, I quoted her dearest pals in an appreciation of Anita here. My pal Laurie Wolfe just sent me this video of Anita that was posted yesterday, called Sound & Silence by Svetlana Samoshina. It seems to have been shot very recently and is Anita interviewed on the street and on the High Line about life, today’s culture, art and her views on just about everything. As Laurie said,
“…this is so poignant, spot-on and beautiful… just how I want to remember her.”
Ditto. Even if you didn’t know her, it’s fascinating. Watch. You might learn something from the one we called, “Auntie Anita”.
There are plenty of channels on YouTube that offer full movies for free but they are often bootleg versions which get taken down by studio with copyright “issues”. But the Paramount Vault is a YouTube channel that offers full movies for free and it is actually run by the studio. What kind of films will you find in the Vault? Many obscure, some bad –but some good and even a few great. Paramount has gone WAY back to pull out some old-school titles that span many genres. And beyond these feature-length films, the Vault also offers tonsof clips from the studio’s more famous productions to share. The famous climactic ending of Sunset Boulevard is preceded by a meme that updates the movie’s most famous line…
“I’m ready for my selfie.”
Wah, Wah. Not sure what the strategy is here but someone in marketing CLEARLY pitched it to the suits that they need to get with the digital age. And most of these “lesser-known” films would just be sitting in the vault, so why NOT put them on YouTube? As if we don’t have enough free entertainment. Peruse the catalogue here and see if there’s something you like. Those Z-Grade Sci-Fi flicks like The Colossus of New York look kinda fun to me. Can’t be worse that San Andreas which I watched last night for $4.99…

You may remember last month I posted this pic of a NYC straphanger that bore an UNCANNY resemblance to 19th century genius painter, Vincent Van Gogh. The pic went viral (before I posted it) and I got in touch with the look-alike himself, Robert Reynolds, who turned out to be a friend of a friend and interviewed him. I asked Robert to stay in touch, and he just sent me the first episode of The Van Gogh Show. It’s clever, not knee-snappingly funny, but it references multiple sources, just as meta Van Gogh should. Watch.
Artist and filmmaker Ryan Trecartin is a bit of an art world darling. He rose to “fame” mostly by posting his videos to YouTube and as his rep grew, he was collected by art star-maker & collector Charles Saatchi. He is represented by Andrea Rosen, who happens to be my next door neighbor, and he shows with Regen Projects in LA. Now, as part of Berlin Art Week, which kicked off this month, he’s exhibiting “Site Visit,” a multi-channel video piece featuring drag queens and monsters. His videos sample the idea of reality TV with much more boiling just below the surface. They are hard to describe. In the video below, a guy jumps out of a locker to talk about his 5 boyfriends, among other things. In his installations there are 5-6 videos playing all at once and you can put on headphones for each. It’s insane. Just watch.
